This is the recipe, growing up, that Mom always made for my birthday dinner. Added into a blog of my favorite recipes, this is truly my favorite main dish of all time.
Easy to prepare, very elegant, and guaranteed to yield no leftovers!
3 Tbs. flour
1 tsp. garlic powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. paprika
1 lb. beef round steak (1-inch thick), cubed
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
1 can (10 oz.) beef broth
1/2 cup water
1 sm. can (4 oz.) sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup sour cream
1. In a large Ziploc bag combine flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika; shake. Add the cubed beef and shake to coat. Remove beef from bag; save remaining flour mixture.
2. In a large sauté pan, melt butter; add beef. Sauté beef in melted butter until brown. Add onions; continue cooking until they are transparent.
3. Add remaining flour mixture (from Ziploc bag), beef broth, water, and mushrooms. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to simmer. Cover and simmer until meat is tender, about 1 1/2 hours.
4. Just before serving add sour cream; simmer 5 minutes. Best served over cooked white rice or egg noodles.

Although the recipe says this dish is best served over cooked white rice OR egg noodles, for my birthday I always had both!
